Proof of Concept Testing and Prototyping
One of the unique aspects of Stress Engineering Services (SES) is that we have extensive test laboratories co-located with our engineering and technical staff. These integrated laboratory facilities provide easy access to equipment and resources needed for proof-of-concept testing and verification of key technical functions. SES’s activities include:
- Assembly of physical models and test systems to verify key functionality
- Evaluation of component sizing for fit and function
- Hand models for ergonomics / human factors assessment
These capabilities are employed at various points in the development process to evaluate how to overcome the functional hurdles that obstruct every innovative device and provide data to verify the approach. The proof-of-concept activities will often be useful for identifying critical elements that need to be studied further during detailed design work, helping to create a roadmap for the development.
In addition to the often crude mock-ups used for proof-of-concept, SES has experience producing a wide range of prototype options. These prototypes include non-functional models for appearance and ergonomic evaluation, partially functional models for usage studies, and comparison of options and fully functional prototypes used in market evaluation, voice-of-customer activities and design verification / validation. SES has the internal capability to produce prototypes via 4-axis CNC milling technology. Additionally, SES has long-standing relationships with local and national companies who provide rapid prototyping capabilities using nearly every commercially available technology.
